Mixed Media | Print Design | Material Exploration
An exploration of the visual language of industrial architecture, inspired by the structure and atmosphere of the former Printworks venue. Through print-based experimentation, this project translates architectural details, textures, and spatial elements into abstract compositions and visualisations.
Research
Research began through visits to immersive exhibition spaces, including BEAMS, where I documented the relationship between architecture, light, and spatial experience.
Visual Exploration
I explored how architectural elements could be simplified and reconstructed through a combination of photography, paper manipulation, and collage. Through layering textures, experimenting with depth, and creating abstract compositions, I developed a series of visual studies that captured the rhythm and structure of industrial spaces.
Print Development
The visual experiments were translated into print-based outcomes through lino and screen print techniques. Exploring positive and negative space, repetition, and contrast, I developed compositions that reflected the architectural forms and industrial atmosphere of Printworks.
Visualisations
The final print designs reimagine the visual identity of Printworks through abstract patterns and architectural compositions. These outcomes were developed into large-scale spatial applications, exploring how the designs could exist beyond the page through installation-style environments.
